Customer reviews can be a highly effective marketing tool for small businesses. In today’s digital age, a customer is likely to consult online reviews before making a purchasing decision. More importantly, these consumers place a high level of value on the insight that they gain from these reviews.
It’s important to use positive online reviews to your advantage. In this post, we’ve outlined five ways to maximize your small business’s reviews.
1. Ask Customers for Reviews
First, make sure that you can get some quality reviews from your current customers. If you have a group of loyal customers, it is likely that they would be more than happy to give your small business a positive review. BrightLocal’s Local Consumer Review Survey shows that 70% of consumers would be willing to leave a review if they were asked.
There are a variety of different ways that you can ask a customer for a review. If you have customers who regularly read your website or blog, you can post a simple request for a review there. You can also ask your customers for reviews while they’re shopping in your store; you can ask them in person, or you can simply post a sign that encourages customers to leave a review of your business. If you send out a regular email newsletter, you can also include a request for a review there.
Once you get a few quality reviews, you will be good to go. According to the same Bright Local Survey, 90% of consumers make up their mind to purchase after reading only 10 or fewer reviews.
2. Use Testimonials and User Reviews in Website Content
Now that you have positive customer reviews, it’s important to display them proudly to make sure other new and potential customers see them. One great way is to add testimonials and user reviews to your website. They should be featured on a visible part of the home page to ensure that your website users don’t miss them.
When posting reviews on your website, chose the feedback that specifically discusses the features and benefits of your products and/or services to tell users why to choose your business. Ideally, the reviews should explain exactly why the customer benefited from using your products.
3. Use Reviews on Your Social Media Channels
One great way to get your reviews in front of others is through social media. You can ask your customers to leave reviews on your Facebook page so that others will easily see them. If your audience sees reviews associated with a real person, they can visit that person’s profile and automatically view the review as authentic. This will give your reviews the credence necessary to set your business apart from competitors.
When customers post reviews on your Facebook, they will often be the first thing displayed on a Google Search, giving further credibility to your business.
4. Use Reviews in Your Marketing Materials
You can also include reviews in your marketing materials to potential customers. These marketing materials can include emails, newsletters, brochures, and more. While reviews should not be the main purpose of the communication, you can include them at the end of the communication to catch the reader’s attention.
If these customers have already subscribed to a newsletter or began to read a brochure, they are already interested in your product, and a testimonial may be just what they need to become a customer.
5. Monitor Your Yelp Page
Yelp is an online rating and review platform where consumers share their opinions about businesses of all types with others. Because the site has over 73 million average monthly visitors and over 108 million total reviews, it provides a tremendous way to reach new customers. Yelp is often times the first place a potential customer looks when trying to make a business decision.
As a small business owner, you should take some time to familiarize yourself with the site. You can learn how it works and take some easy steps to improve your company’s Yelp profile to give potential customers a look into your small business. See more information on how to do this in our past blog post, “How to Maximize Yelp Reviews to Grow Your Small Business.”
By following these steps, you can easily and quickly get your reviews in front of new and potential customers, which can ultimately help grow your business.
